Over the weekend Sonia o in as the " First Hispanic" Supreme Court Justice.
I congratulate her and wish her well.
Here is a woman that struggles and she is a wise woman with the richness of her experiences that more often then not help her reach a better conclusion than a white male.
What really concerns me about this country is the fact that we are now electing and appointing people not on the merit of their work. Not on their ability but on their race or gender.
When some people elected Obama as our President people were screaming in the streets that history was made. Not that the most qualified candidate won but that they made history. Look how that is turning out. We now have the most unqualified person in my lifetime as our President.
Now we have Sotomayor Again the Latinos interviewed in the paper did not talk about how qualified she is they spoke about history. Look at these comments. Not one talks about how qualified she is.
A woman in Chicago who is a law student sees herself” a Latino who over came the limits of her culture. She sees her own stubborn nature in the New Supreme Court Justice. Both are Diabetics. Ok another reason to be happy she got appointed she has Diabetes!
"We have finally arrived," said Carlos Ortiz, a past president of the Hispanic Bar Association.
From Chicago to Oxnard, Calif., from Sotomayor's hometown of New York to Puerto Rico, her parents' home, her ascent from a housing project to the high court has galvanized Hispanics' hopes. Said Murguia: "Her story is our story."
"I have chills down my back and my leg," said Maria Alvarez Castro, president of the Manhattan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Maybe she can get together with Chris Matthews from CNBC who gets thrills up his leg when sees Obama.
As the vote wrapped up, club owner Roberto Ayala yelled "Viva Puerto Rico! Viva las mujeres! Viva el barrio!" to cheers and applause from the crowd. OK not long live America long live Puerto Rico!
Marisabel Paret-Dros, 42, a Mayaguez attorney says Latinos will benefit on issues, such as immigration, from the confirmation of Judge Sonia Sotomayor. OK so that’s why they wanted a Hispanic judge on the court.
The chant of "Esa es, Esa es, Esa es!" ---- She's the one! -- was followed by a sustained "clave" beat created by the hands of the approximately 70 women, some of whom swayed from side to side as if dancing a silent salsa. Her and Obama the other one what more do we need?
"My mother, a single parent, raised my brother and me as a very wise Latina who made the right choices for me," said Agnes Rivera, a 58-year-old retired social worker. "You had to have been there to understand that, and Sonia has not forgotten her humble beginnings." Then I guess this person is qualified for the next opening on the Supreme Court.
Manhattan attorney Ricardo Aguirre, says She has shattered the myth that America has of Puerto Ricans and Latinos."
Sergio Zeligman, owner of Las Gangas clothing store in downtown Mayaguez, says Sotomayor's achievement makes Latinos feel they are part of the fabric of the United States. "We have representation that we've never had before."
Representation we have not had before! Are you kidding me?
Press one for English, literature in Spanish. I feel like a foreigner in my own country and they want representation? They have it.
Maybe if they learned to speak English it would help to succeed in this country.
