America CAN be oil self sufficient!
(by Luigi Luciano - April 10, 2008)
All I hear about is how we need to find other alternatives to gasoline to run our cars. Not a bad idea if it could be done. In fact I am sure one day it will be - but not in my lifetime.
Why does this country have such a problem with drilling for oil here in the United States?
We really don’t it is the environmental groups who yell the loudest. Well I heard about a story, from RigZone.com that was very interesting.
"'Massive Oil Deposit Could Increase US reserves by 10x' -- America is sitting on top of a super massive 200 billion barrel Oil Field that could potentially make America energy independent and until now has largely gone unnoticed. Thanks to new technology the Bakken Formation in North Dakota could boost America’s Oil reserves by an incredible 10 times, giving western economies the trump card against OPEC’s short squeeze on oil supply and making Iranian and Venezuelan threats of disrupted supply irrelevant. In the next 30 days the USGS (US Geological Survey) will release a new report giving an accurate resource assessment of the Bakken Oil Formation that covers North Dakota and portions of South Dakota and Montana. With new horizontal drilling technology it is believed that from 175 to 500 billion barrels of recoverable oil are held in this 200,000 square mile reserve that was initially discovered in 1951. The USGS did an initial study back in 1999 that estimated 400 billion recoverable barrels were present but with prices bottoming out at $10 a barrel back then the report was dismissed because of the higher cost of horizontal drilling techniques that would be needed, estimated at $20-$40 a barrel.
"It was not until 2007, when EOG Resources of Texas started a frenzy when they drilled a single well in Parshal, ND, that is expected to yield 700,000 barrels of oil that real excitement and money started to flow in North Dakota. Marathon Oil is investing $1.5 billion and drilling 300 new wells in what is expected to be one of the greatest booms in oil discovery since oil was discovered in Saudi Arabia in 1938. The US imported about 14 million barrels of oil per day in 2007, which means US consumers sent about $340 billion dollars overseas building palaces in Dubai and propping up unfriendly regimes around the World. If 200 billion barrels of oil at $90 a barrel are recovered in the high plains, the added wealth to the US economy would be $18 trillion dollar. This would go a long way in stabilizing the US trade deficit and could cut the cost of oil in half in the long run."
This is huge. Can you imagine what this would do to the blackmailing terrorist countries like Saudi Arabia? With all the oil we have in this country from Alaska where we can’t move some of the Caribou out to another location, to off the shores of Miami where environmentalists complained so much we will not drill - but Cuba is.
We have so much oil in this country it is crazy that we do not drill everywhere we can to get our independence from the whacko’s in Venezuela and the middle east until a time comes where we can find an alternative.
Here was a story I heard on Rush Limbaugh that you didn’t hear in the mainstream media.
“Another super-delegate has come out for Obama. "Wyoming Gov. Dave Freudenthal, a former Clinton administration appointee, announced Wednesday that he will support Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination. Freudenthal said he was impressed by the large, enthusiastic crowds …" That is why? "The governor also said Obama gave him an honest answer about putting the Wyoming Range in western Wyoming off-limits to oil and gas drilling, something Freudenthal would like to see the US Senate approve."
So you see the Liberals are at it again. This Governor is willing to vote for a guy because he gets big crowds and would support not drilling for oil and gas in his state where there seems to be plenty. Does Obama and this governor know that gas is close to $4.00 per gallon?
What world do they live in?
This is what I am talking about. People in our government on both sides of the aisle that have no idea about life and what it is to struggle. They use the excuse of global warming, hurting our environment to raise taxes and spend more. Here is another example of the craziness to jump on the wagon to get more money from us in the name of saving the environment.
"Motorists in Los Angeles County could end up paying an extra 9 cents per gallon at the gas pump, or an additional $90 on their vehicle registration, under proposals aimed at getting them to help fight global warming."
"Voters would be able to decide whether to approve," this is being called, "a 'climate change mitigation and adaptation fee' under legislation being considered by state lawmakers and endorsed by the board of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The money would fund improvements to mass transit..."
This is what I am talking about. When there is an opportunity by government to find a way to get more taxes out of us they do. What will be next a tax on barbecues.
Here is another doozie.
From the Washington Post a couple of weeks ago, the headline: "'Beacon or Boondoggle? New Lights For the Capitol' -- The warm white glow of the Capitol dome may soon go green, part of an effort by Democratic congressional leaders to save energy and modernize the District's nocturnal landscape. But like so many issues on Capitol Hill, the plan to update the building's 18-year-old exterior lighting has ignited partisan bickering. Republicans and other critics consider the project's early phase wasteful, and they question whether a $671,900 contract to design the lighting system was steered by Rep. Robert A. Brady (D-Pa.) [to] his home district."
The whole world is going crazy over this global warming frenzy.
Until someone answers the question I have been asking for years I will not believe that humans are fully responsible for global warming. That question is what happened to all that ice from the great ice age we had before cars and all the great things we have today that they say are causing the world to melt?

Get you fact straight! This story has been debunked.
According to the U.S.G.S. "Using a geology-based assessment methodology, the U.S. Geological Survey estimated mean undiscovered volumes of 3.65 billion barrels of oil, 1.85 trillion cubic feet of associated/dissolved natural gas, and 148 million barrels of natural gas liquids in the Bakken Formation of the Williston Basin Province, Montana and North Dakota."
Now lets see we use 7.1 billion barrels/year. That is enough for 6 months. Stop this assured belief that we can become energy independent with our voracious appetite for oil. Even if we could produce 7.1 billion barrels/year do you really think that Exxon or BP will say "oh this is American oil and we will give you a special deal on it?" This country was not endowed with massive oil reserves ANYWHERE do a little research. |
