When is enough of a good thing too much?

(by Luigi Luciano - October 11, 2007)
Here we go again. Whether it is Halloween, Hanukah, Christmas or Easter people keep trying to do away with our culture.

Last week a Muslim mother (Zahdan)  in Oak Lawn Chicago requested that her children be separated from the others during Ramadan. The school agreed but the good news is the parents did not.

Some parents got it right. “I don't ever remember one of us asking for our child to be separated from classmates during Ash Wednesday when they were fasting, or on every Friday of Lent when our children are not allowed to eat meat,” said parent Cathy Hughes.

Here just another ludicrous request by the many people who lives in America and want to impose their beliefs and cultures on us when it should be the other way around.

Parents from the same school in Oak Lawn went crazy when once again an assault on our traditional AMERICAN celebrations were under attack. The issue was whether Halloween and Christmas celebrations are insensitive to school children who are Muslim.

In fact the school board ended up caving in. Not getting rid of the holidays but to recognize Ramadan. I guess next they will be recognizing Festivious and invite George Constanza to be the guest of honor.

But Zahdan insists she never wanted traditional celebrations removed from schools, she only wanted Ramadan recognized and included.  "We should educate our children about all the holidays, equally," she said. "And not to favor one holiday over another."

All I can tell this lady is it is not her job to tell me what my kids need to be educated on.

Once again the parents said it best. “If Muslims want the school holidays, menus and school traditions to become tailored to their needs or beliefs, then they should go to private school next to their mosque,” said resident Brian Shapiro.

This woman and people like her are nuts. Is she forgetting where she is? This is America and we have traditions here that should stay here. If these people don’t like what we celebrate then leave. I am sick and tired of having to please every person who comes to America and wants to push their culture down my throat. If I was interested in her holiday I’ll look it up online.

What are we becoming? When other immigrants came here years ago they respected our culture and didn’t try to shove their cultures down out throats.

In fact living in the shadow of the big city I have to hear about all the parades celebrating other countries and we have to pay the expenses as tax payers. There are parades for Chinese New Year, Cuban Day,  Bronx Latinos Unidos, Haitian-American Day Parade, Phillipine Independence Day, Puerto Rican Day, Pakistan Independence Day Parade, Muslim  Day, Mexican Day, Nigerian Parade, Pulaski Day Parade,  Korean Harvest Day Parade, Greek Independence Day Parade to name a few. How many American day parades did you see?

We worry so much about keeping other countries culture alive but we are destroying ours.

People come here or live here like this Muslim woman open her mouth and everyone has to jump.

In fact officials in the Chicago schools of Oak Lawn agreed earlier this month to change the lunch menu to exclude items containing pork to accommodate Muslim students. News that Jell-O was struck from the menu caused such a stir that officials have agreed to bring it back. Gelatin is often made with tissue or bones of pigs or other animals. They are putting an asterisk next to pork items. Which is fine by me just don’t remove it from the menu because of a specific group who don’t can’t eat pork.

We have to stop serving food that Americans eat to accommodate some Muslims belief? Where will this end?  I’ll tell you, when we have no American traditions left and the majority of people in this country don’t speak English.

I cannot even put all my anger down on paper. I am fed up with the political correctness. I am fed up with having other cultures forced down my throat in my country from people that know nothing about America is about. The only thing they understand is that America is better than their own country or they would not be here. They come here or raise their family here because it is still the best place in the world to get ahead raise a family. But the more people we allow here and the more we allow them to force their cultures on us the faster our culture will be buried.

Americans need to stand up and raise their voices at meeting in every town that has these problems. We have lost traditions that had nativity scenes in town squares to singing Christmas carols in school. We have allowed this to happen and if it continues it will destroy this great nation.

We have traditions and a certain culture that has made us what we are. We do need people coming to America unless they can respect those traditions. They can celebrate whatever they want. They can choose not to eat whatever they want. But they should not expect Americans to be forced to celebrate their beliefs. I would love to see what would happen in if an American in a Muslim country wanted the schools educate their students on Christmas. I could only imagine.
